Meet Phil…
My name is Phil and I’m a life-long aviation enthusiast who runs the Caliban Rising – Aviation History YouTube channel.
I’ve been interested in aviation and flight ever since I could remember, and I have a particular passion for early 20th-century aircraft. I am enthralled by the pioneers of aviation who took to the air in fabric and wood as well as those who battled over the skies of Europe and around the world in the two world wars.
Although not a professional historian, my passion for history did take me to the University of Kent, Canterbury, where I read History. My passion for flying also found me in the cockpit of a modern trainer over the skies of Bastogne, Belgium. Gaining my Private Pilot’s License was possible THE biggest achievement of my life.
Unfortunately, my passion to fly outstripped my ability to pay for it as need my relocation to Taiwan in 2017. Now I work as an English Teacher during the day and work on my YouTube channel at night. I’m hoping to one day get back into the air on a regular basis and really get a better understanding of what my heroes really experienced, in some small way.
